Tucu (Sarawak Highland Salt)


Tucu means highland salt in the Lun Bawang language.

Salt water from naturally flowing salt springs are harvested and traditionally processed in smokehouses set up around the salt springs. Due to the lower concentration of salt in the natural brine, the salt maker has to constantly man the fire over a course of 3 to 4 days to boil down the brine and eventually harvest the salt crystals.
